For this company holiday
party, Charles suggested an all white "Winter Wonderland" concept based on the stark white art gallery
setting he first viewed at Santa Monica's Bergamot Station. Upon final walk-through of the site, Charles
was surprised to see that the once colorless room was now filled with an art installation full of brightly
colored hues and that the towering white walls were now painted in very non-wintery shades of purple and
orange.
Not one to miss a beat, Charles went to work on a plan to realize his original vision. Workers were
brought in the day before the event to remove the art from the walls, store it safely in another part of
the gallery and repaint the walls white. Glistening white Astroturf was laid over the concrete floor
and a white vinyl dance floor was put in place. Tables surrounded by silver chairs were dressed in
shimmering white tablecloths with a sheer silvery overlay. Centerpieces were composed of 10' birch
trees in a blanket of snow with paper white narcissus emerging from the base.
The perimeter of the room was lined with 20' birch trees, snow blankets, boulders and lighting
projections of winter branches. To lower the vaulted ceiling and create a more intimate atmosphere,
large balloons served as white inflatable sound baffles that were installed in the warehouse styled ceiling.
For a dramatic splash of color a single red cardinal was placed in each centerpiece tree and an open red
rose was laid at the base. The guests were led into the room by the Salvation Army Band playing "White
Christmas" and the tune was picked up by a 10-piece society band once inside the room.
